1. What we collect

When you use our free battery recommendation service, we collect:

• Contact details — name, phone, email, when you request quotes from installers.
• Property information — address, postcode, state, roof orientation, existing solar setup, phase configuration.
• Household usage — daily electricity usage, quarterly bill, backup needs, EV ownership, priority preferences.
• Uploaded photos — electricity bill, switchboard, install location, roof aerial images.
• Wizard answers and AI-generated recommendations — the battery/inverter shortlist and pricing we produced for you.
• Session data — an anonymous identifier stored in your browser (localStorage) so we can update your record if you re-run the wizard, plus your device/browser type.
• Communication preferences — how you'd like installers to reach you (phone, SMS, or email).

2. Why we collect it

We use your information to:

• Generate a personalised battery, inverter, and solar recommendation.
• Estimate government rebates and payback based on your usage and location.
• Connect you with up to two installers who can prepare a firm quote (only if you consent and submit your details).
• Improve our recommendations by analysing anonymised usage patterns.
• Send you follow-up communication about your quote (only if you consent).

3. Who we share it with

We only share your contact and property details with a maximum of two installers when you explicitly submit a quote request. We do not sell your information to marketing lists, brokers, or data aggregators.

We use the following third-party service providers to run our website:

• Supabase — hosted database and file storage. Your data may be stored on servers located outside Australia.
• Anthropic — the AI service that generates your battery recommendation. Your wizard answers and photos are sent to Anthropic for processing but are not used to train their models.
• Google Maps — used for address lookup and satellite roof imagery.
• Vercel — hosting and content delivery.

These providers may store or process data in the United States, European Union, or other regions. By using our service you consent to this cross-border disclosure under APP 8.

4. How long we keep your data

• Contact leads — up to 24 months after your last interaction, then permanently deleted.
• Anonymous wizard sessions — the JSON record (answers + evaluation result) is kept up to 12 months for market analysis, then permanently deleted.
• Uploaded photos —
  • Photos attached to a contact lead (you submitted your name and email): kept with the parent lead and deleted when the lead is deleted.
  • Photos uploaded during an anonymous wizard session: automatically deleted 30 days after your last activity. A daily cleanup job removes them from our storage bucket.
  • You can ask us to delete your photos immediately at any time (see "Your rights" below).

5. Your rights

Under the APPs you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12).
• Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or out of date (APP 13).
• Ask us to delete all your data.
• Opt out of any marketing communication at any time.
• Withdraw consent for us to share your details with installers (though installers we've already introduced you to will still hold what they received).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@batterychoice.ai with the phone number and email you provided. We will respond within 30 days.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. Passwords for our admin portal are hashed. Photos are stored in a private bucket and are only accessible via authenticated admin sessions.

No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a data breach affecting your information, please contact us immediately.

7. Cookies and local storage

We use only strictly necessary browser storage:

• bc_locale — remembers your language preference (English or Simplified Chinese).
• bc_session_uuid — an anonymous identifier so we can save your wizard progress.
• admin_session — an HTTP-only cookie set only for authenticated administrators.

We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. You can clear these at any time via your browser settings. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.

8. Children

Our service is intended for property owners and adults arranging home battery installations. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
